Seamus

Seamus (pronounced shay-mus) is my current, and only Syrian hamster at the minute. Full of life and personality, here’s a bit about him.

A black and white rebel without a cause, Seamus is young and feisty. Even as I write this, I bear the wounds of an annoyed hamster..the lesson being, do not disturb him in the middle of the day. I’m not sure he shares the same personality as his idol, but he shares the same name. I got Seamus on the day Seamus Heaney, the Irish poet, died. So, in his honour, my new hamster, was christened with the same name. I have yet to read any of this Seamus’ poetry though.

Seamus is about 1 year old, and has lots of energy. He likes to run miles on his wheel, or build forts of bedding in his Ferplast Duna Fun cage. Lettuce is his favourite food, and could consume more than a rabbit in an hour, if he was permitted! He does bite from time to time, but not usually. I like to think of him as a rowdy teenager, annoyed with my existing, wanting to go out on his own and explore the world. He may not be the cuddliest of all pets, but his personality more than makes up for it. Even our dog, Flora, cannot scare him. In fact, given the chance, I’m pretty sure it would be Seamus chasing Flora, not the other way around!

Seamus hopefully has a good few years left in him, and some time to provide us with as many stories as Pip and Hamon. He’s a little bit wild, but that’s who he is, and I like it.
